Ugh, I didn't want to do this, but I guess I should now, just to cover my own ass.

Due to an unfortunate entry (unfortunate in the sense that the wrong person found it), this is now a "Friends-Only" journal and will be the last public entry until the day the Vancouver Canucks win the Stanley Cup (sooner rather than later, please).

I could be more conscious with my security setting for each entry, or change my username, or start a new journal altogether, but meh, this is easier.

Ironic that in order to use my right to Freedom of Speech, I choose to hide what I say. Coward. I'm disgusted with myself. *Eyes banner* Can you tell?

I got a "restored" Compaq/HP (i.e. clearance) laptop for $300 and free stuff (printer, wireless router, 1GB flash drive - with a $60 mail-in-rebate) from Staples this morning. LOL. Yay for being thrifty! It only has a 1GB of ram, but only for the time being. ;)

Laird and I were the first ones there at 6am. It was sooo effing cold, but at least it wasn't raining/snowing.

God, I love this keyboard.

Now to sell the router and printer...

Does anyone know where to get those sparklers - the fancy candle things you can hold, or put on cakes (which is what I want to use them for)?

I'm going to check Superstore, but I'm not sure if they have them.

Pyatt - pretty
Ugh, nasty vertebrate exam. I just can't seem to internalize the course material.

But I've been saved twice by missing deadlines. The first being last Thursday when I missed the deadline to request to make my vertebrate final exam worth 65% of my final mark instead of the 38% (i.e. erasing my midterm mark). And tonight, at the start of the game where Luongo pulled a Game 7-esque disappearance from the game. It was too late for me to shove Sanford in the yahoo pool. Lucky for me.

Blessings in disguise or divine intervention?

:P

Towel Power - GM Place
WOW. Last half of the game + OT + penalty + shootout! Luongo = GOD. Battle of the MVPs - and Luongo won. Oh, Rick, you missed such a great game. GM Place is always so quiet under this defensive style, but it was electric tonight. It felt like the first game of the playoffs.

Pure entertainment, except the wrong team won.

The only NHL arena Crosby & CO. have never played in... damn you, schedule makers.

I constantly refer to Sopel as "Cracker-back Sopel". I made fun of Laird when he pulled a back muscle taking off his steel toed boots (more than once).

And then one Saturday morning, I woke up and felt a strain on my lower back. It hurt, but it eventually dulled. Unfortunately, it made periodic returns over the course of weeks. Last week it became more cyclic, where the pain would peak just before bedtime. Then Friday it was unbearable. I was literally crying and couldn't sit up to study. And Tylenol didn't help (with the pain or the studying). Neither did the smelly chinese oil nor the hot water bottle (which only seemed to make the pain worse) nor that fact that I have horrible posture in the first place and I hate going to the doctor. I'm one of those people who would rather not know that they were dying in five months. Ignorance is bliss. And so I'm toughing it out with Robax. Who needs to touch their toes anyways? And your vertebrae cracking constantly is normal, right? I can hide the flinching just fine.

Back surgery is something that's not in my near future right now, thank you very much. And neither is going to the doctor to find out that I need expensive, time consuming, back surgery and the fact that I should have lost 20lbs five years ago. I mean, hello, finals?

Ahh, fuck.

Snow day, please?

P.S. Cracker-back Sopel is still absolutely hilarious to me.

Pray... for... Mo... Jo.

I. My computer is sick. Viruses up the whazoo! Damn, all I was doing was looking for ringtones, then pages started freezing and things started popping up and so I disconnected from the internet. And now my Control Panel's disappeared. I can't find my Windows cd, so I can't reformat unless I use fake stuff from the net... and right now? I'm very wary of anything from the net. :( Maybe it's a good time to get a laptop and start fresh?

Nah. That's what Boxing Day is for.

II. First period sucked. Second and third rocked. The third period was especially crazy. Penalty after penalty - for the Ducks, that is. It was really entertaining (i.e. the Pronger serenades). A new rivalry? Definitely. Bert didn't get much of a response, positive or negative. Naslund scoring from less than three feet from Bert = awesomeness. So was Bert shooting wide on Luongo. Those were some special seasons though, weren't they?

(LOL, apparently there's a rat trapped on the ice right now.)

I wish I hadn't put Giguere in though. I was greedy. I wanted to be content no matter what the out come was.

III. It's really fun hating the Leafs. And the them prolonging their game (and therefore the start of the Canucks) was so aggrevating, even if it was beyond their control. I love the turmoil in "Leaf Nation"/"Centre of the Universe" right now. "LOL" doesn't begin to express my joy... "ROFL" is almost there. :P

IV. The Olympics mascots are cute, but too childish. Sure, kids will love them, but what about the rest of us? People have been calling them "native Pokemon" and "too Asian" with "Japanese names".

Maybe they should have just borrowed Fin.

In a very special edition of the school newspaper, The Peak is transformed into Peakle. (Don't click it unless you really want to download the 5.4 MB file.)

A spoof of popular websites including Google, LJ, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Wikipedia, Terry Fuxxx, PerezHilton, RottenTomatoes, and Craigslist. I got "published" again. I was on such a Pyatt high, wasn't I? :(

Right, so the biggest problem with a Crim minor is that it'd be useless for me. (I really don't know what I was on when the idea came to me.) I'm trying out one or two courses in Gerontology (thanks to a suggestion by Kevin) to see if I'd like to minor in that. We have a Health Sciences department under Arts, but it's a lot of courses to complete to get a minor (and I've used up all my lower division electives), so I'm really hoping Gerontology works for me.

It looks like I'll be quiting my job come the end of January. I'd quit sooner, but I just don't have the heart (nor the money in my bank account) to do that to my supervisors just before the holiday rush, so the end of January seems fair. I need to get involved in clinics, hospitals; anything health care related. I need to get my GPA up.

It's time to focus on priorities and move forward. Enough with the sitting back and complaining and the endless guilt trips. Time to grow up and make things happen for myself. Swallow the fear of the unknown as best as possible. A lot is depending on it; on me. I hope I know what I'm doing.

Lesson of the month, revisited: Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Confidence and bliss can be cruelly (and quickly) taken away with a word, letter, or number. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

Pyatt - pretty
Left for GM Place at 10am, got there half an hour later. About half a dozen fans around wandering the store. Got my voucher for the autograph. Eventually got in line. (I didn't want to be the first one. :P) Line grew, but it wasn't as big as I thought it'd be and there definitely were more guys than I predicted. Everyone bought photos for Pyatt to sign. Noon rolled around and as the anticipation grew, a rep came out and began by thanking us for coming, but said he was sick with the flu and that Brad Isbister was coming to replace him with the added note that they'd reschedule one with Pyatt (apparently sometime next month).

A few people left, those around me that stayed complained the whole time about Isbister being the one replace him. I was feeling the same way, but it just went on and on and Isbister was at least half an hour late (apparently they practiced at 8-Rinks, not GM Place) and everyone was thinking that no one would come, but he did. It was all very blah.

And now he's taken my jersey virginity.

And for the love of God, Pyatt's escaped my clutches again.

Photos up on Facebook, as usual, but this particular one of a Pyatt poster that I took after the announcement is getting a larf on CDC:

Larf = laugh. And CDC = Canucks.com. I am oh so witty. )

Why am I looking at doing a crim minor?

Cut because I'm getting things out and it's wordy and boring. And it's the same bs about school you've heard before. )

Well, a large plastic tray fell on my head today at work and left a boo-boo on my arm, but it's mainly because SFU's only offering 2 courses next semester which are required for my major. And I was thinking of ways of adding something other than "Biology major" on my diploma.

Gah! Enrollment appointment on Wednesday! I think I will take a couple upper division crim courses next semester as electives because the only pre-req for a lot of them is Crim 101, which I already have. I'll decide on minor or no minor later.

EDIT:

CRIM 442-3 Restorative Justice Practice: Advanced Topics
8867 *D100 Sem T 12:30 - 15:20 AQ5017 B.Morrison

LOL! A sign! XP

EDIT 2:

Maybe I shouldn't be so hasty about not doing cell bi. Maybe I should take just take one bio and 2 crim next semester. Or one bio and three crim. You know, let things between me and cell bi cool off a bit. *shakes fist at BISC 403 and MBB 222*

Canuck Appearances

Mah Jong dude crossing the street
Aside from the Taylor Pyatt one which is not listed on canucks.com (I got the info from a friend/group, but I trust it... or maybe I just really want it to be true? LOL), here's what is listed:

Saturday, November 17th )

All so far away again - to avoid the crowds? To reach out to fans outside of Vancouver? A bit of both? They had a couple autograph sessions last month, I didn't notice until today (and now they've removed it) AND they were on weekdays, too! Burrows was at Metro. Not that I would have been able to go - October was a crazy busy month.

I found out about Pyatt's appearance on a computer at school. I ran to where Darwin and Richard were and in my fangirl mode squee-ed to Darwin (quite loudly as you can imagine), then promptly grabbed the shoulder of some stranger using the computer beside him, forgetting that it wasn't Richard. LOL. So embarrassing. Ahahahahaha.

I got 'published' in the school newspaper again. )

I swear they edited it. Oh well.

I hate school. I'm slowing accepting the fact that I just don't give a flying hoot about cell biology, so I'm going to try and get into a couple physiology classes instead next semester. Still undeclared. I thought I did really well on my ecology midterm, but that wasn't the case. I haven't gotten it back yet, so I don't know where I went wrong. And somehow things are picking up again. How do I still have 3 presenations and 2 midterms left?!

Mofos.

*stares at the 3 dinners on the week of Nov.18th* I might have to miss one or more of them...

Democracy is not a spectator sport.
Some school things:

*Our TA didn't show up for tutorial today. And we had 3 powerpoint presentations, too. :S Everyone did the whole "15 minute rule" before people started leaving. Is that a even real rule or an urban myth type thing?

*We had a two day U-Pass Referendum where they wanted to pass an increase of $1.60/month. If it failed to pass, we'd lose the U-Pass altogether.

Gee, not much of an option.

It needed 1400 votes (yes or no) in order for the referendum to be valid. We got 3000 out of a student body of 26,000, which is pretty sad, but it accurately reflects how valued democracy (no matter how insignificant the issue at hand) is these days in our part of the world for our generation. On the upside, I was allowed nag people about voting and they didn't shrug or shy away.

Looks like the increase will pass and we will pay something like $26/month for the U-Pass.

*I lost my ebay virginity. I bought the USB cable and cd for my cell phone from Hong Kong for $0.99US. Ha!

Best costume today: Borat & the Gingerbread Boy (apparently from Shrek, although I doubt he was 7 feet tall...).

Borat was a little to rambunctious and was a bit too in character. So much hip thrusting. So much leg hair.

*shudders*

I tried to convince Jason to be a karate kid, but he found an old ghost mask and fell in love with it. He put it on and turned around, only to be startled by his own reflection in the mirror. LOL. Eight year olds. :P

And yes, I am in my generic Gryffindor costume as I type this...

Coffee or Tea meme stolen from darth_kittius )

I had to go to 5 major chains/stores until I found one with the deluxe version of BSB's cd.

1. London Drugs - $15.99, regular version, but they had in a drawer that no one could get access to! It wasn't on the shelves. Didn't see Britney either.
2. Music World - $14.99, regular version.
3. Zellers - not in! No Britney, either, I think.
4. WalMart - not in! (WalMart intimidates me. It's so... American. Big and bold.)
5. HMV - success! Both versions! $14.99 regular, $19.99 deluxe

It took me two malls, 2 hours, a skytrain ride and a couple buses, but I finally found it. I can't believe this is what the industry has turned into. Remember when music stores had to be prepared for the wild crowds? Now they don't even have it in stalk the first day. It was very disappointing and very frustrating.

The bonus tracts are very "meh", but I was so happy when I finally opened my copy. The boys look fab! Nice pull out poster that I will never use. :P Men in suits. ♥ Great overall theme! I like this album more than Never Gone because it's more well rounded, but maybe I should have just bought it off of iTunes and saved $10 and a couple hours. Damn, I didn't know they sold the bonus tracks...

Holy jesus. I think the album is $9.99 CDN and $10.99 US on iTunes. !!! First price difference in our favour?!
